Orbit Zero

A common critique of Astrology holds that the gravitational force a star exerts on a single human is so minimal, so faint that the Earth itself has an infinitely stronger grip on each of us. In a sense this much is true, but if gravity was all that mattered then humans wouldn’t feel the pull of Outer Space so keenly and the promise and terror of its breadth wouldn’t beckon to us so well.

Orbit Zero is a game designed to play out a full season of a mecha or space opera series, drawing from the tropes of those genres and emphasizing character growth, conflict between individuals, ideologies, and political powers, and the romantic, alien nature of Outer Space.

The goal of this game is to guide players through a five act mecha/space opera series, negotiate their missions, goals, and secrets, and to use dramatic showdowns as a vehicle for ideological, emotional, or deeply existential clashes.

Orbit Zero uses one 12-sided die to determine the outcome of confrontations, risky maneuvers, desperate gambits, and hard choices. The game accommodates from 3 to 6 players and requires a GM, though the authority and control of the game is fairly balanced between the GM and the players - the GM serves mainly to facilitate the story as it progresses and the overall game should be played as a collaborative storytelling experience.

Orbit Zero, along with other games using the d12 based Zero System, will be available in 2021.
